Lauree Manzer was the Branch County Art Guild's February 2002 Artist of the Month. She has been a member of the guild for 20 years, and enjoys the fellowship and learning experiences in the guild.
Lauree began art as a child. Her sister, Elva, encouraged her, furnishing Lauree with oil paints and canvas to paint with, and scrap paper for sketching, later taking Lauree's paintings to Detroit to sell them. Lauree studied art in high school. Her favorite artist is Robert Woods, because of how he paints trees and places old buildings in landscapes. Lauree's favorite subjects are old buildings, and she does historical research as well as use the memories from her childhood. She also has done a series of portraits and florals.Lauree's favorite media include watercolors and oils. One of her goals is to paint what others will not paint. Lauree states she enjoys thinking about the art she will do, putting herself into it, to the point she almost gets "locked in." Lauree's style is at times realistic, at other times impressionistic. Lauree and her art are a valued resource of the community.
Lauree states, "I am an old fashioned woman" and that she was happiest in the "good old days".....she remembers the Branch County area when there were many old buildings, mills, and meadows, which are now paved over with parking lots and business development. She has made an effort to preserve the memories, trying to "bring Coldwater back to life" in the re-creation of old buildings and scenes in her artworks.
